I want to buy a new macbook pro. I am thinking of getting the non retina model of macbook pro as I wont be doing any photo or video editing jobs and don't need a retina display on a 13 inch screen. I wont be playing any games on it as i have a pc and a ps4. But i am worried about the old 3rd gen hardware the regular macbook has. Is it still worthy enough for today's applications and usage?

If you are buying new you should definitely NOT buy the non-retina version of the Pro. It is old and way overpriced. It really only exists for schools and corporations that need the older model and can afford to pay extra for it.
The retinal models have a much better screen, better battery life, faster CPUs, much faster ssds, etc. If the retina models are out of your budget range, you should look at the 13in air models.

Don't get the wrong impression-the hardware of the old macbook pro is still pretty decent, but it isn't worth their asking price.
You could also look into buying a refurbished model directly from apple. These are like new and have the same warranty and support as a new machine.
