About 3 months ago, I built a computer. I downloaded my OS to a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, but also installed a 1TB Hard Drive into my rig. Soon after booting the computer, I realized that the HDD was not recognized in My Computer or Disk Management, but I COULD find it in my BIOS and Device Manager. In device manager it says "This device is working properly" and I updated all of the driver software. I have been searching for an answer for months and it would be gratifying to finally find a solution. Any help would be lovely:)

PS: In device manager, when I click on the HDD>Volumes>Populate, it says 'volume information for this disk cannot be found'

so again in short:
- HDD is NOT recognized in My Computer
- HDD is NOT recognized in Disk Management
- HDD IS recognized in BIOS
- HDD IS recognized in Device Manager

Welcome to the community, connorparnell!

I'd recommend you to try swapping the SATA cable connecting the HDD and also try plugging it in a different SATA port on the motherboard. Most probably you are dealing with a faulty SATA connection that is not supplying the drive with enough power for Windows to recognize it properly.
Another thing you could try is connecting it to a different computer, if you have access to one. See how it will be detected there, this will help you determine the source of the issue.

Keep me posted! Hope this helps you! :)

Hey there again, @Alexander!

I'd recommend you to check the external HDD's health and SMART status using the manufacturer's diagnostic tool to run the long & short tests. It will help you determine if there's actually anything wrong with the drive.
I'd also recommend you to try the external drive on another Windows computer and see how it will get recognized there. As soon as you can access your files, I'd advise you to back it up, so that you don't lose it.

Hope this helps. Good luck & Happy Holidays! :)
