Can't use 2133mhz ram speed, 1600 is max even though 2133 is supported

I've tried looking a few places to see why I can't seem to set my ram to 2133 in my bios. I even set the timings to what was suggested in CPU-Z 10-12-12-31-43-1T @ 1.6 volts. Everytime I boot it just says there was a problem with overclocking or voltage change and it defaults back to 1333. My bios is updated and everything, I'm thinking maybe I'm not correctly changing the voltage? Not sure anyways the ram I'm trying to use is G.Skill Ripjaws X series 2133 2x8GB part number is F3-2133C10-8GXM.

PC Specs

Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.40GHz
Mobo - Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Corsair TX750 watt PSU

Yeah that's where I just use it to Make it Profile 1 or 2 right? If so I tried it and it didn't work either

Yeah I tried it at 1866 as well and it still shows overclocking or voltage problem. I tried setting it manually on 2133 and 1866 and I still get the same problem. I bought the rams as a Pack from new egg 2x8GB sticks in one pack.

Sandy Bridge can have problems with RAM faster than DDR3 1600. Intel only certifies DDR 1333 with Sandy but 1600 usually works fine. Anything faster can overwhelm the IMC ( integrated memory controller ) on the CPU. My 2600K doesn't even like my ( admittedly old- January 2011) 1.6v DDR3 1600 7-8-7-24. That's what the RAM is rated at but I get the same errors as you if I don't manually set the timings to 9-9-9-27 and the voltage to 1.55v.

There is very little to no gain from running Sandy with anything higher than DDR3 1600 anyway. The IMC just can't use it.

Sandy Bridge - rated at DDR3 1333 but DDR3 1600 works fine.
Ivy Bridge - rated at DDR3 1333 but DDR3 1866 ( and higher can ) work fine.
Haswell ( redesigned memory controller ) - Rated at DDR3 1600 but DDR3 2400 and higher is fine.

Possible. But I've tried everything to get my 2600K happy with my RAM and it just won't work with anything other than what I listed above. I did buy the week Sandy was released ( Jan 11 ) so I have a first revision ( D2 ) CPU too though. I'm sure later steppings did better as the IMC was part of the revisions.

4.5Ghz since day 1. Well except when I had to RMA my motherboard due to the P67 chipset "issue". I have literally spent hours playing with it. No big deal now since this is getting retired in a month or two for a new Skylake build but yeah man, tried everything. Get the same errors he does. Might be stable for a few days but it will crash eventually.

I paid extra for this cas 7 RAM too......$250 for 8GB back in Jan 2011. lol

Oh and I should add that in all that time I've seen many others with the same problem. Some Sandy chips do fine and others....not so much.

What mobo? Sounds like a P67, so MC voltage may be called VCCIO could take that to 1.15 or so and maybe the VCCSA (system Agent voltage) to 1.0 or 1.05. Also ensure latest BIOS. The P67s were sort of tricky, the Z68s were better (and worse as they didn't get the BIOS updates they needed, since the Z77 followed so fast that the Z68s became unwanted (read unsupported) orphans

Always kept the BIOS up to date and yes it's a P67A UD4 ( Gigabyte ). I've played with the VCCIO and VCCSA for days.

I have been a somewhat successful overclocker since ~2001 so it's not like my first attempt either :p

I figured it was probably because I had such an early revision chip. Especially since I've had 2 of the exact same model motherboards.

Might well be, I had ES 2600K and a MSI P6745 initially, then when they played the recall on the mobos sold it, and ordered a 2500K with a Rock P67 Fatal1ty which turned out to be a sweet combo, ran 4.8 and initially 32GB of Snipers in 1866 then got the RJ X in 2133/9> Just sold that off at the end of last year
