Hello. I'm a complete NEWB when it comes to stuff about networking.

I live in a house with about 10 other strangers here, and mostly everyday after mid night when everyone finished their dinner or came back from work. My connection is really laggy. The modem and router is very close to me basically right next next to me, so I use wired connection. I assume they are either using TORRENT or STREAMING to cause this lag.

Could anyone teach me to HOG the network and limit their usage if possible? I also don't know how to get into the network settings. I tried http://192.168.1.1/ and it never works.

I keep getting this blank page that says;

This webpage is not available

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

Router: JCG 750M Dual Band Router
Model: JHR-N936R
IP Address 192.168.1.1

Greatly appreciated if anyone could help me! I can't afford to buy my personal internet yet, and need a fix like this at the moment.

faster speed may not even help him. if multiple people are running torrents all the time and not limiting the bandwidth, then faster speed would only allow them faster torrent speeds and little will get through for dan to use anyway. he needs to shape the traffic either way and it is probably not possible with his router at this time.

I found out why 192.168.1.1 did not work for me. I searched somewhere on this forum, and someone suggest to go into cmd and type "/k ipconfig /all" and look under Default Gateway and I will find out what the IP is to enter the settings

Yes I need it more than the other 9 people. They have day jobs, and I need it for my work. I work on my PC 7 days a week online.

At the moment my cash is super tight, and need a temp free fix. After I saved up enough money I would buy my own connection as I already stated in my post. I'm kindly asking for a solution not get flamed because you just don't like what I'm trying to do.

Please someone try to help me if possible. I tried going here http://support.hitech-us.com/ to search for help an a agent tried using TeamViewer to assist me for 2hrs and couldn't find a solution for me.

I'm hoping here someone has a solution for me. Thank you. I'm willing to make a donation if someone could assist me.

If you work on your PC, then you need to pay for a dedicated internet connection. You should be able to expense the cost either as a business expense on taxes or get reimbursed by your employer.

1. You need to find out what the router address is. Open "Command prompt", type "ipconfig", and check the Default Gateway fiel, then enter that address in the browser.
2. You need to know the router' password. If you don't know it, or someone else manages it, stop reading. Buy your own connection.
3. This is your router' manual. Page 35 describes QoS (Quality-of-service) settings.

more than likely, your router does not allow you to assign the priority of the traffic. an advanced router will let you use the settings to assign bandwidth and such based on ip address or time of day or streaming vs torrents or whatever. but a basic isp provided one is generally pretty limited on what it can do.

if someone already spent a couple hours playing with it and could not do it, then this tells me your router is just not able to do it. a new router or a conversation with your room mates asking for some consideration is all i can suggest for you.

there is nothing you can do to your pc that will allow it to hog the net since the router is the piece of the puzzle that determines what data goes where.

are your roomies that uncaring that they can't give you some specific times of the day to allow you to have some bandwidth? i used to run torrents almost non-stop years ago but when the bandwidth was needed elsewhere, i would throttle it back as much as needed to let the house do whatever it is we needed to do. when we were all at work, they ran flat out but in the evenings it was slowed down so we could stream and game without issues.

a separate connection seems needed if your pals won't be respectful of your need a few hours a day. just my thoughts anyway
