Limit speed on router's LAN ports?

I thought there should be some models allowing you to setup the maximum speed for each ethernet port on the router.
But after googling it - looks like it's only possible using a switch because the LAN ports on routers are hardwired and the speed can be controlled only using IP and MAC address control.
So is it possible and if so how and on which models? Thanks!

Alex,

It is possible but could be limited depending on the router's make and model.

You can also take some router models and change the firmware to DD-WRT or Tomato to gain additional QoS control. Supported router models are listed on the DD-WRT and Tomato websites. Read carefully. Process is tricky. You could brick the router.

Other than that you will probably just need to grind through finding and reading the user manuals/guides for various routers to see what QoS settings are available and to what extent they may meet your requirements. Check the respective manufacturer user forums as well. Start with your preferences (manufacturer, model) if you have favorites.

Keep in mind compatibility with your other network specific...

Keep in mind compatibility with your other network specific devices. E.g., stay with one brand if you can.

Specific QoS configuration options may or may not be readily apparent and/or changeable.

Watch out for some possibly excessive marketing hype....
