Before I throw the list at you, which will probably be fairly strait forward, I want to preface this with the fact I haven't built a PC in many years. Seven or so. It's been a while guys. That said I'm back doing so and find myself a small bit lost on some of the architecture I'll be dealing with. I'd like to claim efficient use of money is a big deal, but honestly I bend that when I can to get more of what I want if possible, however I do dislike waste or loud computers. That said, to the meat of the post.

I've been reading for months now on and off trying to get my built straitened out but one thing keeps killing my research and its the processor with this setup. I am going to be using this for primarily gaming, recording, and video editing (nothing crazy just stuff for YouTube etc: rendered in 1080 / 720 @ 60fps) planned resolution for gaming I'm aiming for a nice stable 1080p with no issues. (If I can get stable higher resolutions, that's cool too but certainly not mandatory for the time being.)

PSU: Corsair HX-850i
Proc: 4.0ghz i7-6700k Skylake
Mobo: Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero
Ram: 16g 3200mhz ddr4 (projected)
GPU: GTX 980 ti (EVGA 6g model)
SSD: Scandisk 120 gb
HD: Seagate Black 1 TB
Cooling: EKWB Predator 360 (or something similar NZXT Kraken 61 comes to mind)

My biggest hangup here is the Skylake processor. I've just been out of touch for so long that some things aren't making good sense and I read a LOT of conflicting information which seems to steer people in the direction of the older 4790k. or a 5820k (i think that's the right one). With things like DX12 and future of 4+ core CPU's I'm just left questioning with no real direction. I have considered the X99 architecture to some degree but without knowledge of the processor I have no real gauge for what that needs to be.

Anyway I also want this to be "future proofed" as much as possible. Meaning all that you see up there is certainly on the chopping block if it has to happen. So if you have any light to shed on this please help and old man out and give me some solid advice. Thanks!

Hey buddy,

You will save a lot of money if you go for the 4790k and a Z97 motherboard with DDR3 Ram (1600mhz)

The CPU is just as fast and has a higher turbo clock rate. Also it can be overclocked even higher.

The parts for the Skylake related chipset are more expensive and 1 to 3 % faster than Haswell.
Also the Skylake consumes more power.

You will have the fastest and most badass computer in town buddy.

And u will save at least a hundred and some more.

Let me summarise it for you

PS: I changed the 980 TI to a different manufacturer

i7 4790k + Hyper Evo 212 cooler
z97 Motherboard
8gb dd3 1600mhz (2x4)
700 watt psu
SSD 128 gb
HDD 1-2 TB
Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 980 TI (best and coolest (temp) 980 TI variation)

Enjoy!
