How to tell whether your gpu is going to die?

So this morning i just had 2 short beeps and 1 long beep.
I've a feeling its gpu issue so i took out and put back in.
Now its running normally but vga and dvi is not working while hdmi is working fine.

Should I get a new gpu or is there a fix to this.

my pc is 6years old though

gpu is radeon HD 4XXX

Once in a while, the gpu fan is very loud.

2nd question, is it okay to let it run as per normal. Is there possibility that a faulty gpu can damage my whole computer?

My friend had a problem similar to yours. It never got any worse despite him pushing it to it's non over clocking limits.
