Hello! I have been having this annoying problem for the past week, and it has been driving me insane. I go to Fort Valley State University in Georgia and after they had a password reset for the internet, I was unable to connect to Steam. To test something out, I went to the nearest McDonalds to see if Steam would connect fine there. Well, to my surprise, I could connect to Steam and play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, unlike how if I would bypass Steam by using -TCP however I would then not be able to play on any game servers.

I tried to fix the issue by using malwarebytes and as a last resort I even did a factory reset. The problem still persists and I went through every option almost possible on different forums and websites.

Furthermore, I tried to see if Steam would work on a friend's laptop, and it did. So, it has to be something with my computer, despite the factory reset. This is insane.

Update: I am able to login to Origin and enter fine. Steam is the only service I am having this problem with. I even tried re-installing it, but to no avail.

Solution
1. Your laptop connects to Steam from nearby McDonalds.
2. Your roommate' laptop connects to Steam from your room.
COuld it that your school have banned your laptop from connecting to Steam?

I went to the networking department and they told me that they did not block any ports nor any computers, at least not mine, from accessing certain programs, websites, or software. So, this should not be the case.

To further add, when I tried accessing some Xbox Live PC games, I could not log into Xbox Live, for whatever reason, but Origin seems to be the only game service that seems to work.

I found the solution. If this happens at your college/university campus, you have to go to the command prompt as admin and type in ipconfig /release. What this does is resets your connections, at least that's what it did for me. Then, after that, all I had to do was log back into the university connection and I was able to connect to Steam again, no problem.

I hope this helps anyone else having this problem at your college/university!

Nope, all I had to do was ipconfig /release and log back into the connection. So, I will just say you have the best solution, because apparently I cannot say my own responses were the best solution. But, at least you were willing to help.

This problem has been solved.
