When moving a large amount of content to another drive, is it faster to move in bulk or pieces?

I was moving about 100 gb of stuff from my ssd to my external hard drive and I noticed that while initially it moved files at 300-400 mb/s, it eventually slowed to 16-20 mb/s. My question is: would I have been better off moving it in pieces rather than all at once? Or is there something wrong with my hard drive?

It will still do the same thing. the HDD can't keep up with the SSD.
You can either do a large batch. or smaller batch, but will will come out the same. smaller batch probably take long as you will have to wait then start another one.
