Would I get anywhere near the performance by having Gigabyte GTX 770 2gb SLI rather than having a new series graphics card. I know there is some threads asking what im asking but I haven't really found a sufficient answer tbh. Would SLI based on performance out do any of the new series cards or would it be that much behind.

Just trying to warrant not paying 300+ dollars on a new series card if i can get another one of what i already have for half the price doing SLI.

Not two worried about psu as im upgrading it to a evga gs 850w from my ocz 700w.

PC specs:
i-5 4670K 4.5ghz @ 1.25v
Maximus VI Hero

If its not worth the time to do sli with my current card ill probably consider the 970 gtx.

I would not recommend the SLI setup. For the power and extra heat, the performance gain is really not worthwhile when compared to modern cards. Especially considering the 2GB of Vram.
770 SLI will perform ~10-20% ahead of the 970 depending on how well the game supports SLI, however most games will push 2GB of Vram easily, resulting in decreased performance.
