Hello. I'm trying to use one of my two USB drives on my Windows 10 desktop. One works and the other doesn't. I have used this one on my desktop before, but for some reason it doesn't work anymore. I get this in the device manager http://i.imgur.com/96C4stF.png and I can't update any driver. I just tried it on my laptop and it works. I've tried every slot on my desktop's motherboard. Other devices and USB drives work in every slot on my desktop I've tried this particular USB in. I don't know what to do because it works on my laptop and not on my desktop, so apparently the device AND my slots work, just not with this particular combination. My desktop motherboard is a MSI Z97 Gaming 5. The USB that's not working on my desktop and is working on my laptop is a SanDisk Cruzer Glide and the one that works on both is a SanDisk Cruzer Micro. Thanks.

Hey there, Filledbyhate.

Try uninstalling the USB flash drive from Device Manager and then reconnect it, so that Windows can install its drivers again, to see if that fixes the issue. Other than that, if there's no update for the USB Controller's driver (Universal Serial Bus Controller), try if reinstalling it fixes things up.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

Actually, before I read this response I went to the device manager and right clicked all my Generic USB Hub and USB Root Hub , clicked Update Driver Software, Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick a list of device drivers on my computer, it showed the only driver update it found with the same name as Generic USB Hub and USB Root hub, clicked Next, and did that for each one so it updated, and all is working. Your answer may work, too. Thanks for your response :)

Update: It is no longer working, so never mind. I will now try what you said. but I didn't know which one to click to uninstall, so I clicked the one with the yellow symbol by it, plugged it back in, and no success. I also tried uninstalling the one that said USB Mass Storage Device. Still no success. I find it very annoying because my other USB drive is working.

Yes, I was talking about the device with the yellow symbol. If this is the flash drive, it seems that for some reason it's can't be properly recognized by your computer. You could try reformatting it via another computer, to see if it's recognized afterwards. You could also check the motherboard's website for specific USB driver for your mobo, to see if after installing it, you still have the same problem.

I formatted it today and it didn't work afterwards. I haven't tried looking for motherboard drivers, yet. I can't help but think if motherboard drivers were an issue, why does my other drive work every time? :\

Well sometimes newer drivers improve compatibility with different devices/models. It's a real puzzle and I can't really get around the idea of why would this work on your laptop and not your desktop computer. If the driver doesn't prove useful, I'd suggest that you contact either the USB flash drive manufacturer's customer support or the mobo's, to see if the guys there can offer a better solution to for this problem.
