Using a spitter from modem to router/pc

Can I do this? Any foreseen problems?

From the modem, a splitter splits cat5 to my router then to PC. I want to do this because I want to move my router to a better central location. But leave my modem and PC in a room.

No splitter, the configuration must be: modem > router > pc. You will have to run a longer cable from the router to your PC or use Wi-Fi instead. Cat5 can be up to 100m long (329 feet)
