What Graphics card do I need?

Hi guys,

I'm planning on building up a gaming rig, I'm a student on a low budget. I know some good GPU's etc but what I am asking is what graphics card will be able to get high settings on games on a 23" HD screen playing at 1080p.
I don't need something hectic. just something I can afford that will let me play HD 1080p.
(e.g. I don't cards that might be good but are made to run on 4k screens or multiple screens)

Im sorry I have no idea what that is or even what country it's from so that makes it hard to recommend anything as I have no idea what prices are like.

Overkill is ideal but on a budget that isnt always an option. A 280x a r9 380 4GB, gtx 960 r9 290 even a simple r9 285 or r9 280

I current I have R6500 (ZAR) I still need to save up more as that won't cover a whole pc. But my budget for the complete pc from scratch is about R15 000, although I would like it to be R12 500 (haha)

Thank you, that give me a good idea. The cards I want is the R9 390 or the Gtx 970. But a little too expensive.

No problem. It's south Africa. We work in Rands. You should Google south Africa. Very nice place just badly run in some places.

Yes I assumed that the 970 or 390 are just out of reach, all the cards I suggested would be fine.

If used is going to be an option, here are some alternate choices
.

gtx 670 660ti GTX 580 (if you are in a pinch it still games well @ 1080P) 7870Ghz 7970 7950. All these cards still game quite well @ 1080P
