Hey all,

I'm having a situation with our network here and am unsure how to solve it.
We just moved locations- and now have our network running from a router -> switch -> router (for wireless access point).

The problem we're having is people are consistently getting booted from the network and get a "Limited" network from their ethernet connections. This happens about 3-4 times a day at an office of 15 people. Also- speeds seems best for them whereas wireless is really bad.

I solely work on wireless and am constantly being dropped and the connection speed is horrible.
I never set up the network so I'm not sure the settings, but can gain access to it all.

Can someone help me figure this out! It's really slowing down production!

Hmm- make sure DHCP is turned off on the Wireless AP, from there should I restrict IPs between the two? For example R1 goes 192.168.1.1-100 and R2 goes 192.168.1.150-250 or something?
Just trying to have a couple solutions ready for when I get in tomorrow.

I see... well then I'm going to have to say it's set up as an Access Point.

is it a router though. lol.

A access point just plugs into ethernet and serves out wifi. A router, can be an access point and serve out wifi, but it also does routing stuff like handling IP address and handing them out, etc.

So that's why I need to know, is a router.

Sorry- yes it is a router.

Ok, a router takes a connection like the internet, which you get an external IP, and then serves it other PC's and gives each of those PC's an internal IP address. This is known as DHCP. Having 2 routers that aren't configured properly, they will both being trying to fill that duty, and thus, create conflicts because each is giving out the same ip's.

I made a good post on how to this, I'll see if I can find it again without having to type all this out.

Amazing. I'll go through it in detail and I'm sure it will solve the problem.
Thank you so much!

Awesome- it worked; our static IP was set to 254 and R1 range was 1-254, switched the range to 250 and everything's been great. Thanks again for the help!
