I want to get a solid state drive for my desktop computer but all my data and windows copy is already installed onto my 1TB hard drive. Is there anyway I could transfer the Windows copy onto the ssd for boot up and then use the other TB hard drive for extra storage? I'm slightly confused on how the solid state drives work with data transfer. Any help would be appreciated.

Solution
There are cloning tools to duplicate your entire drive onto an SSD.

However, you could only directly clone your 1TB HDD over to your SSD if your SSD had enough space for ALL the data on the 1TB drive.

If you have an external storage device available the easiest thing to do would be:

1) Backup all important data from your 1TB HDD to the external drive
2) Delete all data you can from the 1TB drive so it's total data usage is less than the SSD drive's size
3) Physically install the SSD and clone your 1TB drive to the SSD
4) Once clones, reboot the PC and make sure the SSD comes first in your BIOS boot order
5) Re-format your 1TB drive to use as extra space!

If you don't have an external drive available let us know and we can...
