Well, it seems to be a problem with my motherboard. I went into the bios and it will only run in single channel mode and I can't find a setting to change it.
1) Running single channel will just reduce the bandwidth between CPU and memory. It doesn't affect the total memory available.
2) How do you know you are in single channel memory only?
3) Dual channel mode is AUTOMATICALLY applied provided you have two sticks (2x4GB) in the correct slots. You don't list your motherboard but sometimes it's the 2nd and 4th (left to right).
The motherboard manual tells you EXACTLY which slots to use based on the number of sticks. One stick might be in the 2nd or 4th slot for example, and TWO might be 2nd AND 4th.
