I am currently having issue, as title stated.
I think their is something wrong with my design..
The CPU stays around 40 celcius when are is no load, 95 celcius when maximum, and eventually BSOD.
CPU:I7 4790K
MOTHERBAORD: GIGABYTE ITX GAMING 5 Z97
GRAPHIC CARD: GTX780 SUPERCLOCKED EVGA
WATER COOLER:H100i

I head that mid 70 celcius is a normal temp for full load..
Please point out if i installed something wrong, i assume i didnt though..:(

Cotton fibers probably aren't helping. When you reapply the thermal paste, just use the weight of the cooler to spread the paste.

The way I do it (and the way that's worked fine for me) is to use a "pea" of thermal paste, about the size of a capacitor on your motherboard. Place it dead center of the CPU, start to install the H100i. Press down firmly and evenly, hold it for about 25-30 seconds, then tighten down the screws.

If you press down on it, the paste should spread itself and get good contact.

I will try to reinstall it, tighten the screws would help or re install backplate for headsink or whatever it is called, base. for the heatsink? That would be a big surgery for my PC

I used cotton swab to apply the thermal paste, since i dont have any other tools, might the cotton swab fibers left inside the thermal paste affect the temperature? I think so, but i dont the high temperature is caused by cotton swab fibers.

The pea method and the grian of rice method are the best. As Archgull said, just put a pea sized dab of thermal paste at the middle ( or the lenght of an uncookeed grain of rice) and applz the themal cooler. There is no need to hold it down though, just apply the screws in a cross patern, and when you put all four in tighten them in a cross patern
