Hello there,
My name is Mark, and I'm having some internet issues like you wouldn't believe. Now, I will try to describe my problem as best as possible, then list off the solutions I have attempted.

The Problem:

A few days into October, there was a night where I wasn't feeling well, and decided to do a hard shut down on the computer when I came home, so I could go right to bed. I held the power button until it shut off, no issue. The problem arose the next day when I launched my PC to play a few games. When everything was up and running, I noticed Skype and Steam were telling me that they couldn't connect to the internet. Sure enough, there was the yellow triangle saying there was an issue. Now when I hover over it, it reads, "Unidentified network, No Internet access."

The Attempted Solutions That Failed:

The first thing I did was troubleshoot. The results were ""Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration." So I Googled that exact sentence, and a Tom's Hardware thread popped up. Read it, tried it. No luck.

I've reset my modem / router about 5+ times. I've switched Ethernet ports, nothing.
I'll quickly list off everything that I've tried.

-IPCONFIG: In CMD, I will type "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew." The result for both commands are,

"No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection 2 while it has it's media disconnected.

An error occurred while releasing interface Ethernet : An address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint."

For the renew command, the first half is the same, but it continues,

"An error occurred while renewing interface Ethernet : An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permission,"

At first, I didn't know what to think, then I looked it up, and decided to run CMD in admin mode. (I didn't know you could do this. I should also note here that I am the admin of this computer.)

The results? Exactly the same thing.

-Calling Motherboard Support: My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD3 and upon calling their support team, I'm instructed to go into my bios, and somewhere else to check my MAC Address I believe is what it was called. Everything seemed fine is what they told me and recommended me to call my ISP.

-Calling ISP Support: I have INFINITY as my ISP and when I called them to discuss my problem, they rebooted my Modem / Router basically. When I reported back that I was still having internet issues, they told me to contact my Motherboard Manufacturer, asked me if I wanted to purchase their promo items, and that was the end of that. Fun.

-Device Manager: Inside "Device Manager" and under "Network Adapters," I have "Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (2) I218-V" listed. I have Disabled and Enabled it, Uninstalled it, and rebooted my PC. Nothing changed anything.

-WI-FI: I recently purchased an ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1300 to hopefully get some internet connectivity going so I could furthermore research what issues I'm having with my Ethernet connection. But, that doesn't want to connect either. It also shows up with a ""Wi-Fi" doesn't have a valid IP configuration" after troubleshooting.

-Conclusion: After countless days of testing, and attempting to find solutions, I am beat. I've now turned to Tom's Hardware to see if there are any brave individuals willing to try and help me with this issue. My steps after this, if nobody out there has a solution that works, is to send my motherboard in for repairs. If it comes back and continues to show the same problems, I don't know what I'll do. I've put a ton of money into this giant metal box, and I'd absolutely hate to see it go for this reason. Any help is greatly appreciated.

-Mark

Hello.
It might have nothing to do with your computer but with your router. You should check if you have your IP adres correct in your router/modem as this is the device that has your internet access. Since you have same problem with wifi too i would say it have pretty good chance of being the router side problem.
To test your router you only need to connect another device to it and see if you have internet.
Restoring to previous point is another method to try fixing it. If restore doesnt work try to reset/reinstall your windows as it might have something to do with the OS too
Try disable your AV too, I know I spent weeks trying to figure it out when actualy my AV was blocking my internet completely

P.S.> yes ISP will often just redirect you to someone else and will sure try to make you buy their stuff
Hope this helps you

Hey, thanks for replying.

I've disabled the WI-FI on my laptop, took the ethernet cable directly out of my PC and into the laptop. Works perfect. However, when I put it back into the PC, it just doesn't want to work correctly and ends up with the "No Valid IP" issue.

Restoring to a previous point could be tricky, but I've still yet to explore that option.

I was running a build of Windows 8.1 when the internet issues began to happen. I ordered a CD copy of Windows 10 and installed that hoping that the issue would clear up. Nope. So I don't know if reinstalling my new copy of Windows 10 would fix it issue unfortunately.

I run Avast as my Anti-Virus and disabling it doesn't do the trick either. This is really blowing my mind as to why it's happening. But I thank you for your reply!

if your windows 10 is stand-alone you can rightaway make clean install (back up your files 1st) if its upgrade to your version you have to upgrade then wait for it to activate, once it activated you can make clean install of it (also backup your files)

Also check your internet options from Internet explorer... Remove the check that says to use proxy if its checked (thats one of the common solutions)
Also go to your IP settings of the computer and make sure everything is set to "obtain automatically" or copy the settings from your laptop
Make sure your router isnt blocking your MAC adress
