If just for gaming you might be able to shuffle things around to get better performance. Both the 4790k & 6700k perform equally well or slightly better than the 5820k due to stronger single core performance. The extra cores and threads of the 5820k dont bring any advantage to games. Also 16gb RAM doesn't bring anything over 8Gb.

Now depending on your local prices by going for one of the other cpu's and matched motherboard, dropping to 8gb RAM would you have enough in your budget for a 980Ti? A 980Ti is a big step up from the 980 performance wise and paired with either of the cpu's I suggested would significantly outperform the original build.

I know it doesn't help gaming but having no SSD as your main drive is a bit painful for such a high end PC.

If it is strictly for gaming, you can go with Z97 + 4790k or Z170 + 6700k if you want to use DDR4.

This would free up a bit budget for getting the said 980Ti which is quite big step-up from 980.

Also, an SSD would be great addition.
