I built this rig (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sD6X3C) with the help of the forum late last year and love it. I really don't do any gaming on it as I have a PS3/4 which don't get much use either. Recently, however, I have the opportunity to buy a full F1 simulator rig set up for PC racing for next to nothing. The simulator is quite large and would need to be in a room in my basement where I fortunately just mounted a 52" monitor procured from my office (gotta love working for a big corporation that does a big move and abandons their old office infrastructure). The problem is I my rig is on the second floor of my house.

So:
1. Is there a high quality and inexpensive way to keep my rig upstairs and have a second keyboard/mouse set to control it as well as be able see the video on the monitor in the basement?
2. If not, I would need to do a cheap build for iRacer or F1 2015, and how cheap can I build one (ballpark) that would still run these games smoothly?
3. Is there a way to use my old antiquated PC (MOBO: Gigabyte GA P35 DS3L, CPU: Intel Allendale E2200, RAM: 2 2 Gig simms of OCZ SL, DVD Burner: Lite-on, VIDEO: VGA 8600GT, PSU: Rosewill 600W, HD: Seagate 320 Gig SATA) on the simulator and but somehow use the power of my upstairs rig to actually play the games?

There are no dumb questions, just dumb people, so color me dumb.

Thanks in advance.

Clayton.

Solution
Hi
I have done this.
I have a full computer setup in one room complete with mouse ,keyboard and monitor and a mouse keyboard and monitor in a second room.
I ran 15 meter HDMI and USB cables.
The USB cable was an active one to which I attached a hub to plug the mouse and keyboard into.
I did get some interference on the HDMI cable but I fitted a booster at the computer end and adjusted the level of boost until I got a perfect picture.

1: Steam in home streaming/Remote Desktop or if you want to go with a better quality a long ass video cable and long ass usb extensions and have a switcher for the video or mirror two displays
3: Yes, Steams in home streaming is great give it a try.
Your request is kind of complicated and I don't primarly speak english so sorry if this is no help.

Being that cost is the most critical component here...what did that run (or would it?) and is this better than the steam solution (which is still making my head spin :pt1cable:). It would seem that this would run me a few hundred dollars as my run will be about 100ft. not optimal.

According to Amazon.com a 15 meter HDMI cable is from $13.00 and a 15 meter active USB is from $18.00 and you would need a USB hub as well if you require it for multiple devices.
If you set your PC to two monitors in mirrored mode then they will both show the same and means you would not need a switch.

Is that not what Steam Link is for? To avoid all these cables?

Hi
I stand to be corrected here but I think the steam link requires an ethernet connection which if there is not one present will still require a cable to be run ,though of course it will be cheaper and I think it only works with the steam controller and not any usb device.

Sorry to be so clueless on the subject, but what do I need to do to make use of steam? Do I need to put my old rig down with the simulator? I do have CAT5e throughout my house if that helps? Also, would the display be rendered from the primary good PC or the one I would be playing off of?

Ok. I think I am getting the hang of this now, a little at least. My primary rig should be fine to run the games I want. Will my old rig (outlined in my signature with the E2200 processor, be sufficient to run as the remote computer where my simulator would be? Is the graphics card robust enough (again main rig far more robust and outlined in a prior post)? Also, how does steam use my primary gpu to render on a remote computer. Way over my head.

Lastly do wheels and pedals work with steam or is this just a total lost cause? I read in an earlier thread that steam doesn't support these types of controllers.

Thank you again!!
