Hi guys I backed up all my stuff on a wd elements 2tb for win 7

and it works perfectly, but then when I went to reformat my main drive in my pc, now it now longer detects it and there is no driver to install not sure what to do. when I plug it in it searches for a driver through windows update and comes back that it can't find one.

so technically it does detect it but then says it cant find a driver.

Solution
I found the answer online, someone else was having the same issue and they unplugged the power to the hard drive and then plugged it back in and it fixed it. So I gave it a try can't remember where I read it but thanks and too any one else having the trouble try unplugged the power and then plugging it back in.
Hi

Is this a usb 3.0 port the WD elements is plugged into?

If so it needs the correct usb 3.0 driver which is probably on the motherboard driver disk or the motherboard makers web site

USB 3.0 ports have blue plastic visible or look at the motherboard user guide to find a USB 2.0 port if you cant find the driver

Finally try another PC to test the drive, if it does not work on your Win 7 PC

Hi there backdrop001,

In case the issue persists even after you update your driver from your MOBO's website, you can try the following: Go to Device Manager -> Uninstall the device -> unplug it -> reboot system -> plug it back in.

Let us know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)
