Hi.
Could you please advise, is it beneficial to upgrade from gtx 560ti (getting rather hot and gobbles electricity like mad - crysis 3 1920-1080 - 60) to gtx960 4gb or 970 with my current hardware. Unfortunately, at the moment I cannot afford to change mobo and cpu as well.
mobo - gigabyte ga-z68ap-d3
cpu - i5 2500k with with noctua nh-d14 cooler
psu - seasonic 650w
monitor - acer v243h 24" 1080
hds - all sata 600
1 ocz vertex4 256gb
2 seagate 1tb
3 toshiba 5tb
win 7 64
8 gb ram

Cheers junkeymonkey
I guess first thing to do is to contact gigabyte for info and latest bios and then go from there.
Is there anybody out there that has successfully done this upgrade? c'mon guys, lets hear it :)

I seen where a say?? a msi card did work but a evga one did not or what ever could be the vid cards bios as well in combo with the boards bios ??

not to say there all this way but seems to be unlucky few and some just changed brand and resolved ?? so as I said mabvye something about the cards bios on a certain brands model ??

all you can do is research whats what on it and go with one you find the best

of course newer cards may now have a better updated bios on them after this issue popped up seeing I don't see the issue as much or at all as before

Yeah, true. I was thinking about getting palit jetstream (or whatever it's called) cos its cheap yet palit has got reasonably good reputation. However, as you say, I'll have to do more research and hope that I have it all sorted out by 27th november and then get a chance to pick something good on black friday sales.

Cheers Rob. I've thought as much but my main concern is my mobo which was not the best one to start with. Unfortunately 2500k socket m/boards are now rarer than rocking horse s**t and quite expensive when you can find them and still old tech. I am hoping that within a year I'll be able to upgrade m/b, cpu (if something worthwhile appears) and ram but until then I'd like bit more eyecandy.

Yeah I had a gigabyte Z68 board which unfortunately died, managed to find a Z77 board online though.

Im sure if you update to the latest bios you should be ok.

Is your 2500k overclocked? If not, then you should, its one of the best overclocking cpus of all time.
