For the past few weeks I have been having an issue with my connection, I've tried everything to fix it except replacing my router or adapter (having a wired connection isn't possible and it worked fine until a few weeks ago). It's not very noticeable whilst browsing the web but makes it impossible to play games.

When I ping google the latency is around 20-25 for a few seconds then suddenly spikes to 700-1200ms for one ping and this happens consistently no matter what I am doing. When I trace routed to google the second hop timed out.

Edit: I bought a new adapter, and the issue was fixed!
I don't think it's anything to do with my hardware but here are my specifications:

Processor: AMD FX-6300 3.5Ghz Six-core
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 270 2GB
RAM: 8GB Allocated
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Socket AM3+ VGA DVI HDMI 7.1 Channel Audio mATX
Power supply: Corsair CX600
Network Adapter: TP-LINK WN725N 150mbps
Router & ISP: BT Homehub 4
All my drivers are updated.

I am the computer connected to the router, but there are 2 tablets connected on average. This isn't a speed issue so they shouldn't be causing this.
