A few hours ago, my laptop died because I forgot to plug it in. After I plugged it in, I turned it on and found I couldn't use my computer at all.

Once I get to the log in screen, which functions as normal, my desktop shows up. For about a minute (max) I can hover over any icon, and it will be highlighted. Then, I will lose the ability to click anything or use keyboard shortcuts or do anything else. Microsoft's support was no help at all, and I'm at a loss.

I have tried unplugging my mouse before startup, removing the battery, accessing advanced startup tools (which I can do by holding shift and restarting from the login screen), nothing I do makes a difference.

I have an Asus N5600 laptop running Windows 8.1.

Please try to reboot your computer in safe mode and optimize your computer properly then it will start working fine. if it is still not working fine then you may try to restore your computer to the back date.

I have already restored my computer to a couple weeks ago and the problem persisted. How do you suggest I optimize my computer?
