I am thinking of buying a Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 Motherboard and using it with a AMD FX-4300 4 Core Black Edition Processor. What I want to know is whether I can use this CPU straight out of the box or if i need to update my bios. If I do need to update the bios, do I need an older/different CPU to do this? Thanks,

No, you don't need to do a BIOS update to get the CPU working.
Here is the CPU Support list for your mobo for reference:

All the CPU's supported work on the 'F3' BIOS update so I'm assuming the motherboard ships with the F3 BIOS version
