Hey everyone,

I just recently threw together a new PC and am experiencing low frame rates when it comes to the witcher 3. They are never getting higher than 48fps and usually sit at about 45fps. I am on the highest settings with 2560x1440. I have dual monitors my rig is below:

GPU: 2 EVGA ACX 2.0+ 980ti SC in SLI
CPU: Intel 5930k
MOBO: MSI x99a Gaming 7
RAM: 32 GB 2880 or something Mhz
my power supply: 1200W power
Case: NZXT 440
Liquid cooler: NZXT KRAKEN x61

I should easily be able to pull 60+ FPS with the witcher right? I am still sitting at 45+FPS.

Solution
Did removing the FPS 'cap' resolve the issue if hairworks did not? Also, while you mentioned you've built a new (and impressive) rig, did you re-install Windows entirely, along with HDD drivers? I encountered this issue because I cloned my raptor drive to an SSD without reinstalling properly and the result was horrific performance.

It took time but afterwards it ran (and runs) like a dream.

That's not really a good answer because there are videos of people running this with lower end Setups and getting 60 steadily with hairworks active. So I am sure this is a fix, but it's not a solution to what I am experiencing. That's like saying just drop it down to medium and problem fixed.

I think I found a very weird solution and that was making FPS "unlimited" instead of limited to 60. Once I changed that in the game settings it's been 60fps 100% of the time.

He isn't wrong in suggesting changing the hairworks setting. The videos of people with it active are likely utilizing the recently added setting of having hairworks on ONLY for Geralt. Just try it and see if it works. Otherwise I'd recommend CDPR's forums, there are endless modders and tweak presets for this sort of thing.
