I cant jump the psu (short green to black) to power on but it works normally when connected to motheboard. I guess it has sth to do with the CPU line?

Is there a way to jump it? I need it to bleed my watercooling system...

Solution

You will need more of a load than that to start the power supply fan it's not going to start probably till you get around the 150 Watt area.
not sure what to tell you, on a 24 pin plug you need to connect pins 16-17. So if your holding the plug with the release tab pointing at you it would be the 4th and 5th wire from the left that need to be connected.

I did a quick search and couldnt find anything odd about that PSU and paperclip test.

I know bro, I've jumped hundreds of PSUs and this is the first unit that behaved like that. Im sure the unit is perfectly fine because I did some load test and even monitored the voltage. I asked in case I need to do sth with its 4+4 pin CPU line to have it run without a mobo. :(

Hook up a molex fan to the PSU and test it again. You might find the fan on that model will not spin till it needs to reduce heat....
Start at the 2.10 mark on this video.

Makes sense, I will try giving it some load by adding a few fans since it may need some load to actually start. Cuz initially I hooked just 1 fan to know when the psu is on (cuz it's a silent model with no fan), I thought the fan was dead or its molex line was broken but it was not the case (since I was able to run them later when psu plugged into a mobo).

I will update this topic to clarify soon.

Sigh, tried hooking 4 6W fans (12V 0.5A), 2 HDDs (not SSD), still no help. So may e you're right. Maybe I need at least 100-150W and/or the CPU pins need to be connected... Still, thanks for ur help Zerk.

I will just buy a crap psu to bleed my loop then, but I still hope some clear answer about this, preferably more technically detailed.

Thanks for any help.

Lol it's a great PSU with very stable voltages, 80Plus Gold efficiency. Only downside that it's only 500W, giving it is a dead silent unit with absolutely no fan. It's been serving me 2 years 24/7 and still running fine. And yes, no coil-whine.

I just wanted to run it without mobo but looks like I need to look more into it.

If all your wanting to do is run your pump to get air out of the system you can use almost anything. Ive used 2 9v batteries in parallel to run my pumps before, any 120V ac to 12v dc wall brick will work. If your really in a pinch you can pull your car battery and use it.

Run down to your local PC store that does repairs and see if they have an old PSU that is ether two small or was replaced because it wasnt working right. They may give you one or it would be real cheap. If you have another computer in the house, put yours next to it and plug your pump into that computer while its running. The easiest is to just pick up an el cheapo PSU and keep it on the shelf just for these occasions, all it has to do is power up and put out 12 v. I keep an old dell 300w PSU from an old socket 478 P4 build laying around just for that reason, use it for testing pumps and fans.
