I had this happen to me after I cleaned my PC. My bios recognized that there was two sticks of ram in the slots but the OS wouldn't. So i just shut down the PC and reseated the ram and I haven't had a problem sense.

I had the same problem. here's what i did to fix it.
1: Only put one ram in and test out all four slots. On mine only two worked.
2: i put the rams in the two working slots.
3: i got all 8 gbs
then i found out that the other 2 slots that were "not working" was actually was working instead it was just being used as a reserved memory slot. i found out because i had another 4 gb ram laying around and i plugged it in the the slots that were not being used and when i turned my pc back on it said i had 7.9 gb used and 4.1 gb in reserved. so i think some slots are used for reserved and some are used to actually be used.

While moving around the RAM slots may have worked, it has nothing to do about "reserved memory " ram slots. There is no such thing. All RAM slots are 100% the same aside from of-course things like location and dual channel mode function. It would be like sitting at 4 chairs in a restaurant but two of those chairs you can't eat salad in. That just does not happen, any of the chairs will allow you to eat any of the food. The motherboard does not care what of the RAM slots you use, it's all the same. The reserved memory and other functions are done regardless of what slot the RAM is in.
