I'd like to get a quad core processor but I"m not sure what my computer would be compatible with. My AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.4 GHz is the low man on the totem pole with a 5.2 on my Windows Experience Index. Because its an AMD do I have to stick with that brand? Can I get an Intel i5?
I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate
The Motherboard is a Gigabyte Technology M61SME-S2

Thanks in advance!

Okay, I guess the last question would be this...Please link recommendations for a computer under $500. No hard core gaming here. Just the occasional flash game and regular internet use. I prefer Newegg.com but if there is something else better I'm game.

Your motherboard supports up to a Phenom II X4 975 or X6 1100T. An X4 965 is pretty easy to find used on eBay.

Edit: - my apologies. It looks like it only supports up to AM2+ processors. Gigabytes confusing CPU support list threw me off (they list AM3, but the BIOS version on the far right says N/A). It looks like the top processor for it is the Phenom II X4 940 - which is still much stronger than what you have.
