Wondering if I need to upgrade? (i7-3770k, ASUS Z77-V Pro)

Hey everyone!

I've been seeing a lot of new processors and various odds and ends coming out these days. I'm wondering if I should upgrade my CPU - or if it'd be necessary with games like The Witcher 3 and other highly graphic intensive games? I've had this processor for about 4 years now.

My current build:

CPU: i7 3770k OC'd at 4.1
MOBO: ASUS Z77-V Pro
Memory: 2x 8gb DDR3 2133 RAM
Graphics: 2x G1 Gaming GTX 970 - SLI
Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 450D ATX Mid-tower
PSU: 850W

I was thinking ahead and I have two options. My main goal is to be future proof with the Motherboard and CPU.

1.) Upgrade CPU to LGA 1150 chipset, which would require a new motherboard. I don't know how long it would last me.

2.) Upgrade CPU to the newest of the new (Skylake), which would require a new MOBO that only supports DDR4 Ram, which means I'd need to get more RAM on top of it. Unless motherboards that are DDR4 compatible can also use DDR3, then I could wait to upgrade that.

I guess I just don't know what "ideal" CPU's are these days in terms of gaming and audio production. Anyone have any thoughts?

Let's say that budget isn't an issue.

I've simply read that Skylake processors blow Ivy Bridge out of the water, no? Would it not be an ideal time to upgrade in that case?

I do a lot of audio production/sequencing, too, and I'm just thinking that it might help loading times and issues I run into from time to time.

When do you think it'd be ideal to upgrade?

I'm just wondering if maybe my CPU could be slowing down. I don't know the best/optimal amount of time that CPU's last. 4 years seems like a long time, for me :/

Maybe I'm getting paranoid?

True...

I guess I could wait, then, in that case. Until games and GPU's are absolutely bottlenecked by the 3770k. I'm torn between doing it now or later to get it "future proofed."

But I guess with anything, it's never fully "future proofed."

If anyone thinks it'd be better to upgrade now, just let me know! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Okay, so I'm planning on upgrading to the i7-6700k.

That being said, I'm wondering about what an ideal compatible gaming motherboard would be, both in terms of reasonable price and performance. I'm also willing to upgrade RAM, too.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? My case supports ATX, Micro ATX, E-ATX, and Mini ITX motherboards. Keep in mind I have SLI 970's in terms of space with the case.
