System keeps shutting off RANDOMLY

Hi all,

My computer keeps shutting down randomly. No warning whatsoever. It just goes black and then tries and restarts. While it tries to restart it will stay on for maybe 1-5 seconds and then restarts/shuts off again. If I flip the switch on the power supply and wait a couple of minutes it will boot back up, however It will randomly shut off again (can be anywhere between a couple of minutes to a few hours).

I know its not a software issue or virus because I formatted the drive and installed a fresh new copy of windows 10, and I still have the issue

Hardware specs:

Intel i7 3770 3.40ghz
Mushkin 120Gb SSD
Hitachi Travelstart 1TB
Some gigabyte motherboard
AMD R9 280X 3GB
8Gb mushkin ram
750 watt silver seasonic power supply

I have no idea what the problem could be. This problem started about 1 month after I put this build together.

It sounds like it could be a bad or corrupted driver that you installed. Have you tried looking at Device Manager and seeing if you have any yellow icons present? If that doesn't work, try to trace what you installed after you put your O/S back on. It probably didn't shutdown until after you started installing your drivers and updates, right?

Of course it can. A bad driver can cause your system to crash quite easily, prevent proper shutdown, or just cause your computer to just shut off suddenly.

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies:

Checked device manager - No yellow icons
Checked CPU temp and its running at 49 celcius
Only driver that is installed is AMD catalyst for my GPU

And no BSOD , just shuts off without warning.

Hmmmm..... I would look into AGAIN... the possibility of some kind of short. Did you build this computer yourself? Double check the wire from the power button on the case that plugs into the motherboard to make sure it's not loose...

Do you have any idea if you have any software installed that has the ability to shutdown your computer? For example, some Video Editing software has a box that will tell it to shutdown after completion. I'm thinking maybe something starts up on boot and issues some shutdown command. You could try verifying all your startup programs.

As a last resort, I would remove the motherboard and reseat it... It's possible it's touching the case at the bottom.
