I'm about to my I7 4790k with either Fury X or 980 TI build and can't decide which one is better.

I'm aiming towards smooth 4k experience with that I need these cards to work in crossfire or SLI but which one is better to go with? Right now I have 1080p monitor and it looks like 980ti rocks the competition with lower res and it will be at least 3 months till I upgrade to 4k and 3 more till I get second card (depending which one I go with).

But I've seen some benchmarks where Fury X beats Ti in 4k games and reading rumors that with DX12 Vram on cards will stack up if used in Cf/sli That means 8gb of hbm or 12gb of Gddr5 and anything that is above 4gigs is future proof in my opinion (And I'm hoping I'm not contradicting myself right now as I'm going for 4core Cpu but Gpu is far more important in games.)

Right now at least where I live Fury X costs as much as Gainward version of 980Ti with 3 fans on it. And regular Fury 100Euro less. And unfortunately I can't wait till double Fiji FuryX2 or something newer as I'm selling my old build to fund this one and already agreed on price.

Which one do you recommend?

The Fury X proves to be much more future proof since its semi-DX12 Ready. With the HBM memory you would be fine for the next few years. But there is no such thing as complete future-proof GPU. The only thing you can do right now is wait for more DX12 games, obviously Id go for the Fury X if im going to be gaming at 4K since when you go CF, it performs like a beast at 4K which goes head to head with the Titan X SLI. If you plan to go full head 4k later then go for the
Fury X since its Quadfire is truly superior and leaves the Titan X behind.

Sadly I dont have money to buy a 4K gaming setup and Im currently stuck with a 780 for my 1440p setup (Upgrading to 390X) and my R9 380 for 1080p gaming.
