A little back ground I bought a desktop from Best Buy 5 years ago, it came from the factory with 8gb ram and an Intel Core2 Duo clocked at 3.9Ghz. The graphics card is a PNY GeForce 9800GT 1gb from a couple years before then. My question is do I need to update my graphics card or my processor to get better graphics out of my games.

Solution
If you are planing to upgrade your Processor you will definitely need to upgrade you Motherboard.. because core I series is having different sockets... so your chance is only to upgrade the Graphics card here..

GTX 750 series will be your best option at this situation...

here are couple of old threads regarding the same related question
