Hey there.
I've decided to upgrade some parts of my pc and I need help to decide what's worth upgrading or not.

CPU: i5 3570k 3.4 MHz
My plan for the cpu is to buy a decent air cooler (smaller than a nh d15) and oc it to at least 4.2. Is there a better alternative?

Board: ASRock z77 Extreme 4
My knowledge about boards is pretty bad, is there any reason I should upgrade this one?

RAM: 2x4gb 1333mhz cl9 DDR3
Planning to buy 2x8 @ 1600 and test if I can still use those 2x4 (will there be any problems?). Else I'll just remove the 2x4 and stay with 16gb.

GPU: Nvidia Gtx 970
Recently bought, no upgraded needed.

PSU: XFX Pro 550w
Has been enough until now, not sure if future upgrades would need more than 550w.

Cooler: none atm
I belive the Noctua nh d15 is the way to go, at least that's the one I see recommended everywhere. Other options are the d14 or the CM 212 evo.
Are there any recent benchmark comparisons for air coolers? The ones I found were either outdated or didn't show those idle/load temps graphics.
Didn't mention any liquid cooler because from what I read the main advantage is the space it occupies, meaning I can get better cooling for the same price with an air one.

Storage: (wtb ssd)
- WD 500 Gb cav black
- WD 2 Tb external hdd
Haven't bought a ssd because at the time they were still somewhat expensive. Now that they're cheap and the price probably won't go down anymore, I want to get a 256gb one.
Price is 90-105€ for kingston hyperx/samsung 850. Should I check a tier list to make the best decision or they're all pretty much the same, from these 2 brands?
Also (not sure if the right forum), while having a game installed on the ssd, is there any difference in the game performance if Windows is installed on the ssd or on the hdd?

Thanks!

Solution
1: Both motherboard and cpu are just fine still.
2: You should NEVER mix 2 different kits of RAM, especially different clock speed ones.
3: PSU is fine
4: definitely get a cooler and then overclock the cpu as you planned. Noctua NH-D14 or be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 are awesome choices.
5: Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial BX100/MX100 are the top ones.

I think I'm set about the ram and the ssd.

Just wondering, is there any AIO cooler that can come close to the same performance as the noctua d14/15 or the dark rock pro 3, costing more or less the same?

As for the air coolers prices:
- NH D-14: 70€
- NH D-15: 90€
- Dark Rock Pro 3: 83€
Based on these prices and each's performance, which one would be the best buy?

The D15 is much better than the D14, and the Dark Rock Pro 3 is about 2 degrees off the D15, but it looks much better, so if you have a windowed case and like aesthetics, go Dark Rock Pro 3, but if not, the D15 performs better.

I think 20€ justifies -4ºC so it's either the D15 or the dark rock pro 3. The remaining problem is that I'll probably have to put the outer fan a bit higher because of the ram (32mm for the D15) so I'm not sure if there's enough space. Couldn't find the ram clearance value for the dark rock pro 3.

This is an image with a regular placed outer fan on a D14 in a zalman z11 plus: http://www.overclockers.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Z11-room-for-D14.jpg
Will there be enough space?

edit: checked a few benchmarks and eliminated the dark rock pro 3 from the options. Considering now the S version of the d14/d15, since it would remove any kind of clearance problem I might have.
