Hello everyone,

I got a software program from school that I need to install from a CD. Havent used my optical drive for a while and found out it isnt reading the discs anymore.

So I went to a local computer store and bought another drive and found out the connector on the back is different from my old one, so I'm hoping it's as simple as getting a new cable for it.

It's a pretty old system, the motherboard is an Asus pk5pl-cm.

Here is a picture of my old drive.

I'm hoping it will work with the motherboard I have. Is the cable needed something that might have come with the motherboard? I still have its original box with whatever is left inside up in my attic...

Solution
The port from the old drive is called IDE and the port from the new one is called SATA.

Fortunately for you, your motherboard has SATA headers so you just need the SATA cable to be able to use the drive. You'll also need a SATA connection from the PSU as well.
