So I'm looking for an external hard drive for me to use Recording games such as - Dishonered - Dragon Age - Witcher and total war games, currently I'm rocking the GTX 980ti with a i7 4790K, so my quality is going to be solid, I'm just wondering on what external hard drives would
You recommend? Nothing to expensive but something that will get the Job done.

Looking forward to seeing your suggestions.

Ah yes I forgot to mention that I will be recording in 1080p with a solid frame rate, must say I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to SSDs and HDDs at the moment I have a spare WD My Passport Ultra 1TB spare.

If I'm going to be recording a 15+
min video in 1080p at 60 frames, which should I use? An HDD or SSD

You should REALLY look into an internal drive to record to.
The transfer speeds are similar (6Gb/s vs 5Gb/s) however internal SATA controllers put less strain on hardware when recording files. You will get better rates and stability going to an internal drive.

1TB is your best bet, a 500GB one is only like $5-10 cheaper. This is the one I have:

They are also supposed to have a really low failure rate, but hopefully I don't have to find out for myself... Really quick as well, through USB 3.0 my read speeds are about 100mbps and write is about 60-70. Not sure if you mean recording directly to the external drive or just copying your recording to it... because I haven't ran into an external HDD fast enough for effectively recording video to it.
