ive recently put together a new build using

amd 9370
msi 990fxa gaming mobo bios 1.0
2x8gb Gskill ripjaws
msi r9 390 8gb graphics card
1tb hd
120gb ssd
corsair h70 water cooler
corsair rm850w psu

upon powering up i get no display just a black screen. everything seems to power up fine with all fans spinning. tried clearing cmos and testing memory sticks in different dimm slots but no still no joy. Everything is plugged in as should be and ive not missed anything??

i contacted msi and theyve told me that i need to update my bios to v1.1 to run a amd9370 cpu. So is this the culprit to black screen? So will this flash stick automatically boot because there is no way of me going into bios and selecting to boot from which drive etc as all ihave is a black screen. any help would be grateful

i will try making a usb flash drive with the latest bios on and hope it runs directly but my concern was i thought you had to enter bios and select a drive to boot but i cant enter bios? lol maybe its me being a noob

well i wont by msi again, support is terrible. they sent me a step by step tutorial and the bios update after a few days but yeah they basically said try it yourself its easy and if you cant do it you will have to return to netherlands and they will sort it out...postage paid by me of course.

Just a long process... if they stated this beforehand i would of just got a board that is fully compatible without bios updates needed lol

Im from england and yeah think i will take it to a computer shop and let them do it for a smaller fee if i cant do it rather than shipping it to netherlands and back. Just heard you wait weeks to get it back...?

Maybe your right as the online seller have now discontinued the mobo ive bought. Seems strange...

Taking it to a computer store where they do maintenance is imo the simplest way,it shouldn't cost that much to update the bios, just bring along the usb stick with the bios file and all they have to do is put in a compatible cpu,put a cooler on it,some ram and power it up.
Make sure you have the latest unpacked bios file on the usb stick.

I don't know how long it will take to send the motherboard to the Netherlands and get it back again.

your right and thats what i thought. Quick 20 min job, nice cheap price until theyre trying to charge as much as shipping....i might as well send it back to msi for £40 lol. Im in the wrong trade ha.

All my mates have consoles so they haven't woken up yet, so i cant borrow or i would of done it myself. But i shall post if the bios update fixed the problem as soon as , as im sure this may help anyone for future reference and thanks for your quick responses guys.

Don't worry not forgot you lol..i sent it to msi on Friday and it arrived in the Netherlands in 3days for £25 with £150 content insurance worth so cant complain. Just need it back working so i can play fallout 4 ha or even to play on the bios screen would be something lol.

Msi emailed me yesterday to say they have the board etc but no eta for when i will get it back. Probs next week?:??:, i will post when it arrives and hopefully it fixed the problem.
