Hello, The wifi at my parents house runs (from my speed test) at around 10,0 upload and 10,0 download. My father is trying to tell me that it is because I am running the speed test on my computer and because I downloaded programs that will make it low. And says, if he runs the test on his computer it will be better upload and download is this correct? Does it matter which computer you use to run tests? Will the results be noticeably different? also what is the average speed most people get? I am trying to tell him he needs faster internet but he is very stubborn. Please help me convince him. Thank you so much!

10 what? 10Mbps is a reasonable speed for most users.

Any wired computer should get the same speed as long as the speeds do not exceed your local area network capability, which 10Mbps would not do. Wireless is a totally different story and I would expect wide variation. If you are testing from a wireless PC and his is wired, he is probably getting much better speed than you if your wireless router or your wireless adapter are either too slow or experiencing interference from other wireless signals.

Perhaps he is considering cost as a factor in the decision and is happy with the current speed. What applications are causing an issue for you?
