I upgraded my 8gb memory to 16gb memory. since then my computer regularly freezes in games, and once it even froze in a word document. what do I do to stop this from happening.

My gaming PC specs:
i7 4770k (overclocked to 4.5 GHz )
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard
EVGA GTX 970
Was 8gb Corsair Vengeance pro memory, now 16gb
WD1tb Black HDD
Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

Solution
1) Restore your overclock to base speeds and see if the issue goes away. Since Haswell, Intel CPU clocks affect RAM stability as well. Running your system at base clocks is the best way to determine if the hardware itself is faulty, or the overclock is to blame.

2) Check that your RAM is properly seated and locked into the slots.

3) Check that your RAM is properly installed in their paired channels. Mixing different RAM sticks is generally not recommended (even from the same manufacturer), especially if you're running them at higher clocks/tighter timings. (You might want to refer to your motherboard manual for this.) (This is also why enthusiast RAM is sold in paired sets which have been tested to work together perfectly.)
