Which intel processors are better?

That is a very broad question as you could be comparing an i7 2700k and an i5 6600k...
However, between the same generation of processors, the i7s are generally the same for gaming compared to their i5 counterparts. Games do not benefit from the 4 extra threads.

Only a few games paired with a high end gpu show any benefit of an i7 and even then the benchmarks I have seen its been under 5 fps

If you compare the i5 to an i7 of the same generation and lock and run them at the same clock speed then they are within 5% of each other 95+% of the time.. Only the very few games that can currently use more than 4 threads (and the slightly larger L3 cache and or L4 cache on broadwell) so till at least DX12 a modern i5 is just fine..

That's what I meant by a little, that's why I said its only worth it if you are editing and rendering.
