Hello guys! I'm currently using a GT 640 on a:
8 GB DDR3
nVidia GeForce GT640 3GB
2TB HDD
My PC is fully Asus custom model ASUS CM1435-EU002D. As far as I know the mother board's name is CM1435. Thinking of buying a GTX 960 4GB, not sure which model/manufacturer though.

Solution

a gtx 750 ti is a huge upgrade over the lowly gt 640 actually.

550w evga supernova is excellent, just make sure it is the GS, or B2 model.

Something like the antec HCG 520w, or a seasonic 520w would be more than enough.

The 960 is a fairly long card, so you first might want to check if it will fit. You could either measure the space available between the HDD rack and the rear of the case, or look online about the case.
Also you need to consider your power supply, as a 960 will need power connector pins and use more power than the 640.

You are probably going to need to upgrade the PSU, very few prebuilt machines have PSUs with PCIE cables on them. They are also generally of lesser quality than what you would put in if you were building it. A GTX 750Ti that does not require external power is as big as you can go without upgrading the PSU.

you have a a8 processor and most likely a very weak power supply

the most you can get without upgrading both is a gtx 750 ti that does not need a 6-pin from the power supply

The GTX750 is just not worth upgrading in my opinion. Could you tell me what kind of PSU do I need to buy and ~ the price range? Thank you! Currently thinking of buying:Corsair VS series™ VS550, Other option is 500W EVGA - 500 W; 4 Pin Connector (Floppy) x1; 1 x 4 Pin Peripheral; 2 x SATA; 1 x PCI-E (6+2 Pin); 1 x EPS 12V CPU 4+4 pin; 1 x 20+4 pin ATX; 120mm fan; 85%
