In Australia buying from newegg

Hi everyone,

I live in Australia, and new egg has started doing delivery here.
I was going to by some parts, ($2000 worth of gear) and it said that i had to pay
$200 (for shipping) and thats fine, and then another $200 for estimated GST!

But then i only selected $700 worth of gear, and it didnt say anything about estimated GST!
So if i pay under $700, would i still have to pay the gst?
Might sound stupid but i have no idea ahah. Cheers

I'm not a taxation expert - but my understanding is that if you're importing goods with a value of less than $1000 AND they're for your own private/personal use then it's GST exempt. If you keep your cart under $1000 you're okay, as soon as you exceed that the total cart will be subject to GST. Might be cheaper to ship parts separately. Alternatively, PCCasegear, MSY and CPLOnline are all well known local suppliers. No doubt there are others too, but they're the ones I look at. You may well be able to put together similar parts and have them shipped within Australia for less.

Maybe you should consider buying from PcCasegear or Centrecom. It would probably be cheaper considering the exchange rate at the moment, and tax/shipping costs. Both are very reliable and I have bought from both on numerous occassions.

**You should also consider your warranty, as US have different consumer laws than Australia**

I just looked at the website, and it seems returns might not be that hard, but given it is an online store based in the US, it might be a hassle to organize replacements.

While most of the time computer parts are fine, a warranty is nice if you spend $2000 on it and something goes wrong.
