I'm looking for a AM3+ Motherboard to fit into my Galaxy 3 tower but i'm having a little trouble.

After my last upgrade attempt (a water cooler) didn't fit at all, I've decided to be a bit more cautious this time with my purchases.

I'm upgrading from an FM2+ motherboard and an A10-6800k. And thought the next logical step was to upgrade to an AM3+ due to limitations of the FM2+ line.

My budget for the motherboard and CPU is probably £300/£350, so nothing major really. Any suggestions on which mobo/cpu to get or even if you suggest intel or amd etc would be great thank you.

Added a bunch of links if you needed reference :)

EDIT: I would like a CPU that is at least as powerful as the a10
EDIT 2: this is for a gaming PC

hey, thanks for your reply.

I don't need any more RAM as i have 16GB of it already.

As for the i5, are Intel better than AMD for gaming now? I've always assumed AMD was the route to go down for that kind of thing

I've done a comparison between the two and overall I would probably say the a10 was better, although i know that the clock speeds for intel and amd are comparable, so i could be completely wrong

if i went for an AMD FX-9590 and the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3... would it:
A) Fit the Galaxy 3 case
B) Need more than a 750w PSU
C) require additional cooling

If all it will fit and wouldnt need a new PSU or cooling theni'll go with that option as it would be under the £300 budget :)

Your choices for the 9000 series:

Asrock 970 Performance
ASRock 990FX Extreme9
ASRock 990FX Extreme6
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R4.0\5.0
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7
MSI 990FXA-GD80V2

AMD.COM

Warning: This power draw of this CPU is almost twice that of the average CPU. Due to this, AMD recommends using at minimum a 850W to 1000W power supply. For cooling, AMD recommends using either either closed loop liquid cooling or full system liquid cooling.

Thank you for your continued help Blackbird.

I'd like to keep the additional upgrades to a minimum. Especially considering I'll have to upgrade my Graphics Card eventually anyway (GTX 750ti)

So on my current set up of:
750W PSU
GTX 750ti
2x 8GB RAM
air cooled (side panel fan, rear fan, CPU and Graphics Card fan)
Galaxy 3 case
Gigabyte F2A68HM-HD2
A10-6800K

It was this pc until i upgrade a few of the parts

great. But will any of these things fit the Galaxy 3. I know i need to upgrade my case at some point. Its just i'd rather just stick to the MoBo and CPU upgrades right now

I did try that with this but that ended terribly with it being slightly too big.

But thank you, you've been a great help - I'll get to ordering shortly
