Powering an HD7970

Setting up an HD 7970 and have come across an issue. I seem to have misplaced one of my 6+2 pin PCI connectors(may have given it to a friend since I was not using it). Will this card run off a 6+2 and a 6 pin connector?

Still attempting to locate the connector or order a new one if I have to.

PSU is a Coolermaster Silent Pro M700

Are there any limitations to this setup?...should I get another 8 pin at some point?

Not sure, but after I got all the drivers installed I went to boot up a game and instantly all my displays went black and the red VGA led on my MOBO went on. Feel like something is not right here.
