Does overclocking GPU core downclock memory?

If i increase my core clock on my GTX 970, will decreasing the memory clock make it more stable?

Core clock and memory aren't linked. Overclocking VRAM results in very small gains though. Almost too small to bother with although the VRAM on a 970 may very well overclock pretty nicely. The most performance gains will come from the core clock speed.

Get the core clock stable then play with the VRAM if you feel compelled. There won't be much gain.

I got the core clock stable at 1.525, I was wondering if by decreasing my memory clock 8.1 ghz to 8 ghz would let me increase core.
