Bridge (2) PCIe 2.0 x1 slots -> (1) PCIe 3.0 x1 slot?

I got 3 PCIe 2.0 x1 slots just sitting on my motherboard.

I've been looking for motherboards with PCIe 3.0 x1 slots, but can't really find any, let alone benchmarks of them. I think that sounds like a good idea for a Raid0 controller. Can you bridge two PCIe 2.0 x1 slots?

What about for a RAM Disk?

As of right now unless you have the latest and greated Intel chip set the Z170 I think you can RAID PCIe Slots otherwise as of now you can NOT do raid between PCIe slots.

And a RAM disk is what it is a RAM disk. A disk that is made from part of your RAM. If you have a PC with 64GB of ram in it and make a 50GB RAM drive you would then have 14GB of ram for your PC to use but a SUPER fast drive. Though it will have to still save to a local drive on shutdown/startup.

And you will almost never fine a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot since anything that is going to go in a x1 slot is going to be a low bandwith device like a Wireless card, audio card, USB card etc. Something like a RAID card, Video card, PCIe Storage are going to use x8/x16 slots. And...

And even then PCIe 2.0 still has a LOT of bandwith that most stuff still don't even max out so having PCIe 3.0 isn't a huge deal. Where PCIe 3.0 benifits from is SLI of video cards on CPU's that have like 20 PCIe Lanes. Each Video card is then give 8 lanes each VS 16. Since 3.0 has twice the bandwith of 2.0 (roughly) when you SLI two higher end cards on 3.0 you don't lose performance.


But as far as using it to RAID PCIe Storage won't work that way. Have to use a RAID card for SATA/SAS storage.
