What speeds are possible when using a 3.0 Wireless-ac Adapter in a 2.0 USB Port?

I know that most adapters will be 2.0 compatible and work fine, but what kind of speed could be possible if using a Wireless AC Router with cable internet speeds up to 500Mbps, but the computer only has 2.0 USB ports?

It shouldn't have any effect on the capability of the Mbps it can handle, the only speed difference would be the rate at which data transmits because it would be functioning at a USB 2 level.
