Hi, I have a western digital 1tb hard drive WD10EACS which is detected in the bios as SATA DRIVE 2 but not recognised in Computet Management so I am unable to use it, I have heard that Lynux operating systemsometimes is better at detecting/repairing unrecognisable hard drives- anyone any suggestions, parting system Windows 7 Ultimate

You can create a Linux live CD which will allow you to boot into Linux from the CD and run the Linux operating system without installing it to your hard drive. Once booted you can see if it will read the data from the drive. If it does, you can then copy what you need to keep to another drive before going any further.

sometimes the drives need to be formatted, since its being seen in the bios i would try this. throw your windows disc in the drive and boot to it. act like your going to do a fresh windows install, click the custom install, when i pulls up the drives click the advanced option and format the 1tb drive. Click cancel to back out of the install and reboot the computer. It should then show up in disc management for you
