Is upgrading to Skylake from an AMD 8350 Cpu worth it right now?

I'm wanting to upgrade to an i7 6700 from my AMD FX 8350 cpu. I want to know whether or not it is worth buying now, or maybe waiting until after Christmas. Will there be a significant price drop after Christmas that would make it worth waiting for? I'm not sure how Intel manages their prices.

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated :)

Hi Daniel,

You could certainly wait until Black Friday to see if there is a sale, though I'd be suprised if there was on that item because it is currently a new and premium item.

You probably won't see the 6700k really drop in price until the next wave of 1151 CPU's comes out.

from what I've seen of the FX-8350, it's able to handle 1080p 60fps gaming perfectly atm (friend paired it with a GTX 970, playtested Witcher 3, Mordor, MGSV, etc).

That said, the processor's on its last legs. You can always overclock and keep it going for another year/year or a half, or upgrade to haswell/skylake and be future proof for a while.

Wait for holiday sales. Intel does not really drop prices that much.

When a new generation CPU gets released (such as Skylake) Intel lowers the prices on the previous generation CPU (Haswell) by around $5 - $10. Intel is not decrease prices of Skylake CPUs until they release their next CPU Kaby Lake which is a refresh of Skylake.
