Thanks chris 987.
Yes, that's the computer. I have a 600W PSU. And thanks for the suggestion on length of GPU.

My GTX 750 ti arrived without a point to plug in the PSU. I spoke to the vendors Dynabit Computer Shop in Parma, Italy. The lady at Dynabit said she didn't think my motherboard was up to scratch, but to try and plug in the GPU anyway.
I did that and there was no response from my computer. I put the current GPU back in and put the disc with the new driver for the GTX 750, then shut down the computer and replaced the old GPU with my new one. Again no effect.
I replaced the new GPU with the old one and had all sorts of trouble getting to work properly again.
So it seems my motherboard is not right for a GTX 750 it. Unless, it was the fact that my PSU was not connected, because, as I said, of the lack of the 6-pin connection 'box' on the card.

thats why i suggested a gtx 750ti cause it doesnt require supplementary power and wont trouble your no good psu. make sure the gpu is securely fit in pcie socket. some pressure is required to do so. make sure you plug in monitor cable in gpu and not mobo.

I've tried again. I get the HP Blue screen with Press Esc for Menu, and a beeping sound every now and then. Finally, the screen goes black and I see the monitor's message No Signal.

I got this from the internet: 'When there is no video signal reception from the processor, the monitor displays the NO SIGNAL error message. The reasons can be due to a hardware component failure... The system makes a short beep error representing an issue when the monitor is connected. The system crash prevents the monitor to display anything. The computer is now unable to boot. No signal can also be a graphics card issue. It is recommended to use a separate power supply to eliminate low power supply to the monitor.' Perhaps, I do need the PSU connected to my GPU, after all.

try clearing cmos(hardware reset) refer to mobo manual for proper procedure. if still no luck then either a psu or a mobo problem.

1) if psu problem then you obiously need a new better one.
2) if a mobo problem , a newer bios maybe required.

I have been playing Total War games such as Rome II and Attila without problems on high settings. Then, I bought Blitzkrieg 3 played it for a while, decided to up the graphics settings and crashed. My fan wasn't functioning properly as it was hitting the heat-sinks and a smell of burning was coming from my m/c.

this is vital information you should have mentioned erlier! i wouldnt have suggested a gpu upgrade. there might be permanent damage to any of your hardware.!!! since you arent a sort of a technical person you should have your pc tested by a technician on a local store.! first you must ensure your current hardware is operational.
